Cadre introduces university faculty to colleagues abroad for COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) projects. To do that well we need to know a little about you and your teaching — and we only ask for what helps us make a good match.
Who we are
Cadre is currently run by Corkscrew Minds, based in the United Kingdom. Corkscrew Minds is the “controller” of your personal information, which means we decide how it is used and are responsible for looking after it.
For anything to do with your data, email hello@mycadre.global. We read every message ourselves.
What we collect
When you sign up to find a match
- About you: your name, university email address, institution and country.
- About your teaching: your subject, course level, when you teach, and typical class size.
In the matching conversation
- Details about your course and the project you’d like to run — for example the course name, key dates, when students could meet live, teaching language, delivery mode, the tools you use, any assessment requirements, previous COIL experience, and what a good partner would look like.
- If you choose to, the name and email of a colleague you’d like us to invite. Please only share a colleague’s details if you think they’d be happy for you to.
We save your answers as you go, so you can stop and pick up where you left off — including from the link in your welcome email. This means we keep the answers you’ve given even if you don’t finish. We only use them to find you a match and to see where the conversation could be clearer, and we delete unfinished conversations after 90 days without activity.
If someone invites you
- If a colleague asks us to invite you, we receive your name and email from them. We send you one email that says who recommended you and what Cadre does. We won’t email you again unless you sign up. We keep your details for 12 months only so we don’t contact you twice, then delete them. Reply to that email at any time and we’ll delete them straight away.
When you use the contact form
- Your name, email address and whatever you write in your message.
We don’t ask for sensitive information, and we don’t use advertising or analytics trackers.
How we use it, and why we’re allowed to
- To find and make introductions. A real person on our team reads your profile, looks for colleagues whose course, calendar and goals fit yours, and checks that both of you want to be introduced before anyone is. We rely on legitimate interests — you’ve asked us to find you a partner, and this is how we do it.
- To check you’re faculty. Cadre is a faculty-only space, so we may verify your role using your university email and publicly available information. Legitimate interests again: keeping the network trustworthy for everyone in it.
- To support your project. If a match goes ahead, we’ll share frameworks, templates and help with the people involved.
- To email you about your sign-up. A welcome email with a private link to continue your profile, and messages about your match. These are part of the service you’ve asked for.
- To invite a colleague you’ve suggested. One email, on your behalf, naming you as the person who recommended them. Legitimate interests: you’ve asked us to, and we keep it to a single message.
- To reply to you when you get in touch, and to send occasional, relevant updates about Cadre. You can ask us to stop at any time.
- To improve Cadre. We look at what makes a good match so we can make better ones. Where we share what we learn, it is summarised and doesn’t identify anyone.
When we introduce you to a potential partner, we share the parts of your profile that help them decide — such as your name, institution, subject, teaching dates and project interests. We only do this once you’ve said yes to that introduction.
We never sell your information, and we don’t share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Who helps us run the site
We use a small number of trusted services to host the site and store information securely. They only act on our instructions.
- Supabase — stores sign-ups and matching profiles, in its European (EU) region.
- Vercel — hosts the website. Like any web host, it handles basic technical information such as your IP address when you visit.
- Resend — sends our automatic emails, such as welcome emails and colleague invites, from its European (EU) region.
- Google Workspace — runs our hello@mycadre.global inbox, where your emails and contact-form messages arrive.
- Web3Forms — passes contact-form messages on to our inbox.
- Google Fonts — supplies the typefaces the site uses, so your browser connects to Google to download them.
Some of these providers are based in, or may process data in, the United States. Where information leaves the UK, we rely on the safeguards the law requires, such as the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses.
Cookies and browser storage
We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies. We only use your browser’s own storage to make the site work for you:
- Session storage keeps your basic sign-up details while the tab is open, so the matching conversation doesn’t ask you the same questions twice. It clears when you close the tab.
- Local storage keeps a backup of your matching-conversation answers on your device, so you can pick up where you left off. It’s removed when you send your answers, and ignored after 30 days. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
This storage never leaves your device except when you choose to send your answers, and it isn’t used to track you.
How long we keep it
- Sign-ups and matching profiles: for as long as you’re part of Cadre. If we haven’t heard from you for two years, we’ll check in and then delete your details if you don’t reply.
- Unfinished matching conversations: deleted after 90 days without activity.
- Colleague invites: 12 months, so we don’t contact anyone twice, then deleted.
- Contact-form messages: up to 12 months, unless they become part of an ongoing conversation or project.
You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you;
- correct anything that’s wrong or out of date;
- delete your information;
- stop or limit how we use it, or object to us using it;
- send your information to you or someone else in a common format.
Email hello@mycadre.global and we’ll respond within one month. There’s no charge.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Keeping it safe
Information is stored with providers that encrypt data in transit and at rest. The website can add new sign-ups but can’t read them back, and only the Cadre team can see profiles.
Changes to this policy
As Cadre grows — for example if a dedicated Cadre company takes over from Corkscrew Minds — we’ll update this page and change the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you’ve already given us, we’ll let you know.
